IFMA Weekend Results Mar 1st, 2009

It was a busy weekend for the IFMA boys - here are the weekend results and updates courtesy of the IFMA.

NEW JERSEY

East Rutherford knows how to party and the boys of the IFMA FMX troop really appreciated the awesome welcome they received. It really wasn’t much of a surprise since we travel with a New Jersey native in the form of Derek Burlew and since we expected everyone to be as cool as him we felt right at home. Saturday night started out quickly as Brian Foster revved up the crowd with a series of combinations to post an 88.9. The crowd was tuned in and got behind Nicky “Six Guns” Dunne who executed a picture perfect cliff hanger during his run for a total of 89.2. The third rider in the first stanza was Jimmy McGuire and although he put together a very nice run it wasn’t enough to get him into the finals as he only managed an 88.2. The final rider out in the first half was home town boy Derek Burlew and he took some extra time to get the crowd on its feet and they responded with a rousing ovation. DB told me he was feeling some nerves before his run, but you would never have known it from the way he rode. He launched into the upper atmosphere on his double grab Hart attack and took forever to get back in the saddle. It looked like he had done enough to get to the finals with his score of 91.7. The boys from Hell on Wheels strutted their stuff next and the crowd was definitely feeling them. They always put on a great show but tonight they were particularly entertaining being so close to home and in the step up competition they went all the way past the 13 foot mark. Of course the front flips lit the place up and the guys left exhausted. During the second session of qualifying, Matt Buyten kicked things off with a solid stripper, but had a sketch on the landing of his back flip no footer and slid into the bleachers. “Buy Ten” was okay but he would not advance to the finals. Kenny Bell fired his machine to a huge roar from the crowd and didn’t waste any time getting inverted, making the most of his run to post a 92.1 and advance to the finals. Dustin Miller finished off qualifying with a run that was as smooth as glass. He was flat out liquid on the bike, using all four sides and putting himself easily into the finals with a 92.0. Our trials rider, Keith Wineland, rolled out next and proceeded to wow the crowd with his extraordinary balance and stamina. Working all the obstacles and having a little fun with the boys from the Hell on Wheels BMX crew as his assistances. Moto Challenge was next with all 7 bikes on the floor ready to compete. After a couple of rounds we narrowed the field to 3 riders. Nick “Six Guns” Dunne, Derek Burlew and Dustin Miller. Miller and Burlew pushed Dunne out with their next trick and that left just the hometown hero “DB” and “Millertime”. With Dunne out of the picture Burlew stole a page from his book and broke out the Captain Morgan to take the whole enchilada. With all the preliminaries in the books it was time to find out who was going to take home the Motorcycle Mall FMX crown at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford. Brian Foster stepped to the plate first and wasted no time getting vertical. His Kiss of Death seemed to hang in the air poster style and you can bet you will see a picture of that on the FMXonline.com website. He set the tone with a 91.3 and made himself comfortable in the Motorcyclemall.com Hot Seat. Nick Dunne did his level best to take the perch from Foster but could only muster an 89.0, so it was up to Mr. Jersey, Derek Burlew to make good. And make good he did! DB came out firing, dropping a perfect base jump and rocketing to the top of the leader board with a 93.3, much to the delight of the crowd. Dustin Miller found his way to the floor next and was going well until him missed on a rock solid and had to settle for an 89.1. The final guy vying for the Motorcylclemall.com Hot Seat was the crowd pleaser Kenny “Taco” Bell. Kenny had things wired, knocking down a flawless back flip and a solid seat grab indy, however, he slid out right at the end of his run and went down. It was all over at that point and the local kid got a huge water bath on the stage and couldn’t stop smiling, knowing he had captured his first IFMA FMX victory. Congratulations to Derek Burlew on a well deserved win. It was an extraordinary night in East Rutherford, NJ. The folks in attendance really made the whole crew feel great. It was also nice meeting all the friends and family that came out to see Derek Burlew. We always have a fun heading to one of the riders’ hometowns. We are taking a week off before heading to the land of a thousand cheeses. Green Bay look out we are on our way! Get your tickets at FMXonline.com or ticketmaster.com.

FINALS RESULTS:

1. Derek Burlew 93.3

2. Brian Foster 91.3

3. Kenny Bell 90.2

4. Dustin Miller 89.1

5. Nick Dunne 89.0

RALEIGH, NC

Well the weather outside was cold and damp but the fans were red hot tonight, and the riders showed their appreciation by ripping out the biggest show I have seen this year! The Wendy’s IMFA Freestyle Motocross presented by Ogio.com started off with new rider to the tour, Mike Vater putting in a pro looking run. He went down late but got up okay. John Distler and Hal Strauss had some impressive and smooth runs that were some of their best this year too. Another newcomer to the tour was Tony Fontana. He had a pretty solid run and did even better in Moto Elimination nailing all his backflips. Speaking of Moto Elimination, Our two top qualifiers , the Villegas brothers battled hard with Hal Strauss with Javier Villegas pulling the win their. The Hell on Wheels BMX Stunt team was lead by Scotty Cramer who was pulling triple whip flips for the fans while Big Daddy nailed his first front flip in a show! The Wendy’s FMX Final was loaded up with some familiar faces and two guys who are making a comeback. First up was Mr. Nasty Slade Waltman who is still building his riding fitness after a ten month layoff. He pulled a huge Kiss of Death to get into the Wendy’s Hot Seat first. Jason “Chi-Town Hustler” Rowe had the coolest hair of all and had to end his run early due to a mechanical issue so he would not make it past Slade. Next up was the younger of the Villegas brothers, Gabriel who started his run with a no handed flip but a few minor glitches put him just barely past Slade Waltman and leaving himself very vulnerable to his brother Javier by scoring only a 90. Javier pulled no punches though and brought every flip he could think of (four total) and a much extended Superman Flip to bring it home with an even 93 points! The crowd was crazy and shoed their support with a really nice autograph line. Usually a really long line is not a lot of fun after two hours for rider or fan, but in Raleigh they were on top of it and kept the party going- Thanks Raleigh for a very memorable night!

WASHINGTON D.C.

The Verizon Center in Washington DC was the place to be on Saturday night as the gladiators of FMX took center stage from the Wizards and Capitols, two of DC’s illustrious sports franchises. The place was filled with the FMX faithful and they would also be treated to a moto-trials demonstration from one of the best in the business, Geoff Aaron. The 5050 BMX Team was also on hand to showcase their skills on their unique half-pipe. The night began with a pre-event Ogio pit party where the fans could meet the stars of the show and collect autographs. On to the show, the top four qualifiers tonight were as follows…Rich Kearns, Greg Hartman, Derek Cook, and Justin Stoltzfus, all of which have IFMA wins this season! The scene was set for a showdown in the nations capitol…Stoltzfus was first out of the tunnel and performed brilliantly to GNR, however, the judges gave him a 91 even and put him on the Hotseat with the bullseye on his back! Next up it was DC in DC putting on an aerial circus and knocked Stoltzfus off the stage! Greg Hartman, sponsored by Monster Energy, he had his best run of the season, capping it off with a super-flip-indy and netted him a 92.3 and was not to be denied his fourth IFMA win of the season, leaving Rich Kearns to deal with second! Next up, Greenville SC, and y’all re invited!!

1. Greg Hartman 92.3

2. Rich Kearns 92.1

3. Derek Cook 91.2

4. Justin Stoltzfus 91.0

5. Shawn Connors 90.0

6. Adam Cousino 89.9

7. Casey Higgins 89.5

Hart Stars in New Anti-Fur Ad - "Ink-Not Mink" Feb 4th, 2009

CAREY HART STARS IN NEW 'INK, NOT MINK' ANTI-FUR ADFeb 4th, 2009

Motocross Phenom Teamed Up With peta2 for Live Unveiling at His Hard Rock Casino Nightclub

Las Vegas — Carey Hart has a heart of gold when it comes to animals, which makes him a perfect poster boy for peta2—the world's largest youth animal rights organization. The motocross superstar "exposes" the cruelty of the fur trade by showing off his amply tattooed body next to the tagline "Ink, Not Mink" in a brand-new peta2 ad. The ad reads, "Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin, and Let Animals Keep Theirs." "For some reason, in society, it's OK to skin a mink alive and wear it as your coat, but you wouldn't do that to your shepherd or your Lab running around your back yard. Why is it OK for one and not for the other?" says Hart. "Spend a half hour on the computer and peek around peta2.com. They show you up close and personal what happens."

Hart unveiled the ad in person on Tuesday at his club, Wasted Space, which is located inside the Las Vegas Hard Rock Casino. Photos are available upon request.

Hart and peta2 want young people to know that animals trapped for fur suffer excruciating pain before trappers kill them by stomping on their chests or breaking their necks. On fur farms, animals spend their entire lives in tiny, filthy cages before they are killed by poisoning or anal electrocution or their necks are broken. In China, which is now the world's leading fur exporter, raccoon dogs, foxes, and other animals—including millions of cats and dogs—are often skinned alive.

Hart, co-owner of Las Vegas–based Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company, first got involved with peta2 during his marriage to longtime peta2 pal Pink. Other notables appearing in peta2's "Ink, Not Mink" ad series include Steve-O, Dennis Rodman, Tommy Lee, and Miami Ink star Ami James.

Broadcast-quality footage of animals killed for fur is available. For more information, please visit peta2.com.
