Mike Jones IS Mad! Mar 22nd, 2010

An unruly airplane passenger was taken into custody at Miami International Airport after he allegedly threw a luggage cart at an airport employee and punched a cop.

Miami-Dade police said about 2:25 a.m. Michael Jones, 43, started causing a ruckus in the baggage area of Concourse H. For reasons that have not been made clear, Jones allegedly attacked the airport employee who worked at the facility as a plumber. Jones allegedly threw a luggage cart at the man, punched him and then reportedly attacked another airport worker.

When a police officer arrived at the concourse he ordered the Pennsylvania man to "lay on the ground". Jones reportedly punched the officer. Four more police officers arrived came to the first officer's assistance, using a Taser Jones five times before they had the situation under control.

Jones was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, assault and resisting arrest with violence.

Travis Pastrana Sets World Record Jan 1st, 2010

A few minutes after the clock struck midnight (east coast time) Travis Pastrana jumped his Subaru Impreza 269 feet, smashing the previous record of 171 feet set by DC Shoes co-founder Ken Block in November 2006. And, just for added flair, he did it under the first New Year's Eve blue moon in 19 years and in front of a live television audience. Then he landed on a barge floating 200 feet off the Long Beach pier, slammed into the tire wall and jumped out of the car to celebrate with the tens of thousands of folks lining the pier.

Congratulations Travis!

Cinq's Cause of Death So Far Inconclusive Dec 17th, 2009

Coroner’s officials ordered toxicology tests to help determine what killed freestyle motocross rider Mike Cinqmars after the results of an autopsy performed Wednesday came up inconclusive.

Medical records from the personal physician of the Apple Valley rider have also been requested by Dr. Frank Sheridan, chief medical examiner for the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department, said spokeswoman Sandy Fatland.

Cinqmars died early last Friday morning after a family member found him unresponsive in bed at his Apple Valley home, Fatland said. Paramedics performed CPR and took him to St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, where the 31-year-old was pronounced dead at 2:08 a.m.

Cinqmars helped pioneer the sport of freestyle motocross more than a decade ago. He started as a 5-year-old motocross racer at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, and by 13 was already an expert at jumps.

In 1999 Cinqmars won a silver medal behind Travis Pastrana in the first freestyle motocross event at the X Games. MTV later televised him jumping over his two-story Apple Valley home, a stunt that quickly got him more video spots flying his bike over a variety of other things.

He was performing a video jump in 2001 when he separated from his bike mid-air and broke his back after a 35-foot fall. The crash ended his career and left him in frequent pain, Cinqmars’ sister, Cassey Fisher, said.

Unable to ride, Cinqmars became depressed, she said. Though his close friends stayed in touch, many of his contacts in the industry abandoned him, Fisher said.

“There was nothing he could do in the industry,” she said. “He couldn’t ride again and he was struggling and he was down and out. He struggled with the fact that he was this rising star and suddenly he couldn’t ride anymore.”

Cinqmars took prescription painkillers because of the injury but her family never heard about the discussions between her brother and his doctor, Fisher said. She did not know his doctor’s name and the sheriff-coroner’s office did not have a name of Cinqmars’ personal physician immediately available.

Cinqmars’ family took him to the hospital after he had lost consciousness Thursday afternoon. Doctors ran tests then released him, telling the family that they suspected some of the painkillers he had taken were incompatible, Fisher said.

A family member checking on him later that night again found him unconscious and called paramedics, she said.
Fisher said despite the injury, her younger brother had been an inspiration to her and the rest of his family.

“We were the best of friends growing up,” she said. “He taught my sons how to ride a motorcycle and was like their second father. We were very close. Our family was very close.”

A memorial service is scheduled for Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley on Saturday at 11 a.m.
